In the wake of a disaster, many people reach out to emergency assistance organizations asking how they can help, but organizing all of the new volunteers can prove difficult.
Now a research team from North Carolina State University and the University of Alabama has developed tools to help emergency response and relief managers most effectively coordinate volunteer efforts. “Spontaneous volunteers are people who, in the wake of a disaster, impulsively contribute to response and recovery efforts without affiliations to recognized volunteer organizations (e.g.
