I’m hunched over in a hospital bed shivering, vomiting in a blue puke bag and crying — the kind of tears that make your vision blurry.

While I wish I could say this was my first time experiencing these symptoms brought on by extreme pain, I can’t. I have a chronic kidney illness where my body overproduces kidney stones leaving me with millimeters and centimeters of rock hard deposits of minerals and salts dancing throughout my kidney, my ureter, my bladder and my urethra.

I have a chronic kidney disease illness that leaves ER doctors saying, “I don’t know what that is — can you spell it for me one more time?” Meanwhile, urologists are speechless because they like to say their only job is to do surgery and these stones that haunt my kidney

I had a really unfortunate situation happen to me today. I won’t get into specifics, but someone was upset with me for how much I share my personal health struggles on my social media pages. For years, I’ve struggled with endometriosis, PCOS, IBS and chronic pelvic pain. My diagnosis list continues to grow, much to my surprise and disdain, adding in an awful digestive condition called gastroparesis and a few we haven’t quite been able to identify yet. Yesterday I went to a neurologist at a research hospital about an hour and 30 minutes away from home. They specialized in multiple sclerosis, which I knew I didn’t have, but I was desperate to see this neurologist. Back in July 2019, I woke up screaming and writhing in pain. All I could do was lay in bed while my fiancé fed me by hand and covered me in ice packs and microwaved towels. Eventually, I was taken to an urgent care where I was told I could have nerve damage and needed to see a neurologist and rheumatologist. Thankfully, they told me I was not a liar and I was clearly in pain, but they could not give me pain medication.
