Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a short-term form of psychotherapy that helps you become aware of self-defeating thoughts and feelings, venture the rationality of these feelings, and update them with healthier, more effective beliefs. Rational emotive behavioural therapy (REBT) is the oldest shape of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and was created by way of Albert Elis in 1955.

Originally, Ellis called his approach Rational Therapy (RT) because he wanted to emphasize its rational and cognitive features, but in 1961, he modified its name to Rational-Emotive Therapy to show critics that it did not ditch emotions.
