What is nepotism in the workplace?

When we talk about trauma, we may tend to think of it as being caused by a single terrible event, such as an accident or an incident in which we felt we were in danger. However, this way of thinking may make it easy for us to forget about the other things in our lives that cause us distress and can leave us dealing with the emotional aftermath of our trauma for years to come. These other events include losing a loved one, losing a home or belongings, and of course, becoming ill with a chronic illness.

With Valentine’s Day soon approaching, I tend to think about my relationship with my boyfriend and what I’ve been able to learn from his journey with cerebral palsy. Here are the lessons he has taught me.

In a bid to try to put some of the more traumatic elements of my recent past to bed, I recently binned some of my old diaries. (Not before shredding them to within an inch of their lives, of course, because God forbid the bin men should encounter a single mortifying word).  I’ve kept a diary almost religiously since I was around 14, and despite there being little of note happening in my life on a daily basis during my early teens and beyond, I enjoyed recording it for my future self’s eyes only.

How can he get better at this?”A: Your son needs a ‘study buddy.’ This is a person who meets him in the library for work and study sessions. A human is more compelling than any calendar app, and the library is less distracting than the dorm.
