As a gay woman, I grew up believing I would never be able to get married. But in 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States of America made my wildest dream come true — or so I thought.

I assumed I was in the clear once same-sex marriage was legal. When I was ready, I would be able to marry the love of my life.

I was wrong. It wasn’t until recently that I learned that chronically ill and disabled people do not have the equal right to marry.
