Setting Goals: recent publications

Nobody wants to fail and everyone wants to succeed. Every day, people are struggling to reach their goals and achieve success. A failure is a painful event and one that almost all of us work tirelessly to avoid.

Many people waste their precious time thinking about their unpleasant past events and experiences, especially their relationships. Most individuals are aware that the past cannot be changed and the future cannot be predicted.Yet they make the mistake of brooding about the events that are beyond their control. Wisdom lies in living in the present.

Elon Musk has a great saying:“Stop being patient and start asking yourself, ‘how do I accomplish my 10 year plan in 6 months?’ You will probably fail but you will be a lot further ahead of the person who simply accepted it was going to take 10 years.”Musk was right. You don’t have to play it safe and be like everyone else.

What goes wrong when goal setting? You’re 42% more likely to achieve your goals by writing them down. (Dominican University Research)… but I’m sure most of you have realized writing down your goals doesn’t equal accomplishing them. The first step in accomplishing your goals is identifying what prevents you from achieving them.  For context, I helped over 170 people set goals last month, and when I see people struggle it typically ties back to these 3 reasons. Avoid These 3 Mistakes When Goal Setting: For example, a lot of Moms have a goal that sounds like, “I want time for myself.” Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great goal but how will you know you achieved it? Is 10 extra seconds to yourself a success? To make it more specific it should sound something like…“I want 30 minutes for myself at 8 am M-F starting June 1st, 2022, or I want one hour for myself at 7 pm M-F starting June 1st, 2022.”“If you’re bored with life – you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things – you don’t have enough goals.” – Lou HoltzI have definitely fallen into this bucket too many times to admit. I had to learn the hard way that setting massive goals can become extremely stressful.

Everyone’s always talking about their GOALS. They want to make it seem like they’re making some great big strides toward some region of perfection that they’re going to nail like a bullseye with their focus, intention, manifestation, whatever.

Humans are always looking for that spark to get us moving when we’re stuck. We know what we need to do but we are fighting ourselves to actually do it.

Three years ago, I wrote down 100 goals in my journal. It was harder than I thought it would be.
