A few years ago, I took a mental health leave from work. I used that time to piece my life back together and deal with the fact that I was broken in a million different places.

I had just been promoted at work, and was excited about the new role I was starting — I had been waiting for an opening on a particular team for months, and jumped at the opportunity when a spot opened up.

The day after I signed my new contract, there was an organizational change, and I suddenly found myself in a role I didn’t want, on a team where I didn’t know anyone, feeling lost and alone.
