Harvard Astronomers Now Have a Better Idea of How Stars Form

The research team from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics believes ancient supernovae that exploded 10 million years ago created the cavity.The Perseus and Taurus molecular clouds, a star-forming region, surround the peculiar cavity. ADVERTISEMENT “Hundreds of stars are forming or exist already at the surface of this giant bubble,” says Shmuel Bialy, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Theory and Computation (ITC) at the Center for Astrophysics (CfA) who led the study.The discovery implies that the Perseus and Taurus molecular clouds are interconnected rather than independent structures.
