I’ve been thinking about how to write about this topic for a few weeks after reading “Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make–and Keep–Friends” by Marisa Franco.
In addition to giving the reader a solid explanation of attachment theory, Franco also talks a lot about the history of friendships in American society.
She talks about letters written between friends in early American history that are quite affectionate, warm, and loving. We wouldn’t dare to say these things to someone we are “just” friends with these days.
