I was born in 1937. My mother had extreme post-natal depression and was sent to a mental health hospital, which many people considered shameful in those days.
Until I was 11, I was brought up by my grandmother and aunt and was just told that my mother had been ill. I had an older brother who lived with my father (grandmother’s son) and mother.
My father often came to see me and gave me much love, as did my grandmother and aunt.When my grandmother died, I went to live with my father, mother and brother.
