If you live with any chronic illness, you’re probably familiar with ‘flare fear.’ Because it’s exactly how it sounds: it’s the fear of another flare impending on your life. I’d bet that the worst moment of flare fear is when your doctor declares you in remission once again. You’re exhausted, emotionally drained, and you’ve likely dedicated every last ray of hope to this moment. At least that’s how I go through flares. I do what I can and quietly await the moment of a clear colonoscopy. Then when it comes, you realize you’ve been holding your breath for the last several months in anticipation.

I used to think of health as a straight line, and on one end, you were really healthy. On the other end, you were sick, but “sick” meant something like the flu, or a bad cold. However, somewhere between my ulcerative colitis diagnosis and my first flare, I realized that health isn’t a straight line at all. It’s actually a fluid winding road that has sudden blind turns and changes in elevation. Sometimes there’s a fantastic view along the way, and other times the scenery is desolate, dry, and boring.

As parents, we often underestimate how much influence we have over our children. And whether we want to acknowledge it or not- the words we say to our children will one day be their inner voice.If you accept this fact, you can use it to your child’s advantage. How? Using the Attention Network Test (ANT), the study found that dietary DHA played a positive role in attention performance.
