Conserving means keeping something the same, maintaining, upholding, regenerating some pattern by constraining what happens, setting boundaries, limiting interaction.
Liberal means allowing something to change, relaxing constraints, letting change happen. Anyone who claims to favor one over the other is kidding themselves.
It’s like claiming an adamant commitment to exhaling, not inhaling. The question isn’t whether to limit or relax things but what to limit or relax.
