Countless times, I've heard a mother say she hides her fear of flying from her kids because she doesn't want them to get it.

There are some interesting things about this concern. First, why mothers? I don't hear this concern voiced by fathers. Second, why does fear seem contagious?

It's like something the kids won't catch if they don't know about mom having it, but will get infected by it if they do know mom has it.
