The Dilemma of Working With Debilitating Chronic Illness
I am tired of living in a system that perpetuates an impossible situation. We live in a system that is capitalist no matter where you live. It is a system that inherently values people based on their ability to create profit and worth.

You Don’t Actually Owe Medical Staff Your Trauma Experience
A few years ago, I admitted myself to get some inpatient support for my mental health. If you aren’t aware, part of that process tends to involve multiple lengthy interviews, commonly undertook by several different staff of all sorts. They do what’s called a “psychosocial assessment,” which helps them understand your needs and possible diagnosis. Inevitably they get to a section of questions regarding if you have experienced abuse or trauma. That part of the interview is what I’m talking about today.

5 Success Strategies for Female Leaders and Founders
I talked to seven award-winning female leaders and founders to find out.The problem with women leaders, founders, and executives, is that more often than not, they find themselves in roles and companies that make them the only woman in the room. Placed within such constraints, women leaders often miss out on the mentorship and support network allocated to their male colleagues.Helen Norris has served as the Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Chapman University in Orange, California since June 2014.

What Neurotypical People Need to Know About Autistic Meltdowns
Autistic meltdowns are one of the most difficult parts of autism for me. My meltdowns were not dealt with well in my childhood. My parents thought I was just throwing tantrums. They thought I could control what was happening, which was not the case at all. I was usually locked in my room during these meltdowns. This has added trauma beyond belief, to have been shoved into a room and have the doorknob ripped out of my hand while all I wanted was some deep pressure. I still have night terrors where I wake up screaming about being trapped. Of course, I couldn’t verbalize what was causing the meltdowns and my parents had no interest in figuring it out themselves. It was just easier to lock me away.

Why Many Autistic People Don't Celebrate Autism Awareness Month
April is Autism Awareness Month, but most self-advocates don’t celebrate it. If one is new to the autistic community, one might be surprised by the pushback against these “awareness” efforts. The month-long campaign has a 51-year history. It was launched in April of 1970 by the Autism Society, which was founded by parents of autistic children. Each year, the controversial organization Autism Speaks promotes the month as one of its awareness campaigns, along with April 2, which is World Autism Day. The majority of the people who celebrate Autism Awareness Month happen to be parents and family members.

4 Ways to Adopt a Winner’s Mindset
Winning isn’t easy, but do you know what’s tougher? Losing. That’s why winners adopt a winning mindset. But it takes time to do so. It also takes patience, dedication, conviction, and persistence. You have to need to win, wanting to isn’t enough. That’s why a winner’s mindset isn’t for everybody in the sense that not everyone is born with it. But it is attainable. You just have to choose between a fixed mindset vs growth mindset. If you choose the latter, then you are on the first step on the path of growth and winner’s mentality. But there are more steps to take before you get there. This article will help you do just that. Here are the 4 ways to adopt a winner’s mindset.

Everyone who has an interest in personal fitness knows that there comes a point when you start to realise how rewarding it is to share that passion with someone else. I Am 18 and Chronically Ill. Yes, I Am Just as Valid.
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia just after I turned 18. I had been fighting for three years to be taken seriously, and it all came to a head in November 2020. I turned 18 and suddenly I had a diagnosis and a treatment plan. I’d been in and out of hospital and general practitioner (GP) offices. I’d had to quit school. I had been either on bed rest or basically sofa bound for the last four months, having only a few days where I could get out and about with my family and boyfriend. I was medicated for sleep, anxiety, pain and then, in late October, seizures.

Grappling With My Schizophrenia Diagnosis
Tonight, I climbed a wall. Well, attempted to; I managed to only reach halfway up before giving up, my hands sweaty, my arms shaking, almost to the point of numbness. My partner was cheering me up, telling me that at least I conquered half of the three-story (or was it four-story?) wall. I wasn’t happy nor sad; I was calm. I even managed to assess objectively why I wasn’t able to finish, without judging myself harshly, something I strive to do every day, and more often than not, fail. At least I made it halfway, after years of not climbing walls (during school fairs only, mind you) and lack of regular physical activity.

What It's Really Like Being a Teenager With Chronic Pain
Having a chronic illness and struggling with chronic pain sucks for anyone. I am not saying it is worse when you are a teenager, this is only my experience. Adolescence is a difficult and exciting time, when young people make discoveries, decisions and plans about their futures, and develop a sense of who they are and their place in the world. But when you are a young person with chronic pain, this period can be extremely challenging.

How Forgetting to Eat Could Be a Sign of ADHD
When I tell people that I’m diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), they usually nod in understanding despite the fact that they most likely have no idea what that means. spotlight effect, which refers to our tendency to overestimate how much other people notice us. How To Spark A Positive Mood When Feeling Dull
Tidy your surroundings and invite more calm and peace into your life. This doesn’t mean just shoving everything in sight into a cupboard and forgetting about it (if only)! The Universe Hurls Forward No Matter What: When Tragedy Taught Me about Acceptance, Hope and Resilience
Tragedy convinced me that “fair and unfair” are human constructs in the eyes of the universe, a system of values created by our species to help us (hopefully) live our best lives. It is true that our beliefs are not unimportant to us humans but to the infinite universe, I realised that those constructs are as inconsequential as the concept of linear time and of day and night: gradations to help us perceive equilibrium and structure of an infinite order that we would not be able to understand otherwise. The universe continues on regardless of how fair or unfair our lives are.2020 was a hard year for many people in the world: between world catastrophes and personal tragedy, loss was everywhere.

7 Ways to Support Autistics During Autism Awareness Month
It’s Autism Awareness Month and many of us who are on the spectrum tend to dread this time of year. Awareness can turn into fear-mongering and scare tactics. However, there isn’t anything scary about autism.

The first is that they typically have homes that have greater property values and as such, make more lucrative targets for identity thieves.
