If you’re experiencing anxiety right now, it can really help to stop whatever you’re doing and take some slow, deep breaths.
As a therapist I use deep breathing and visualization techniques every day in my sessions with clients, but often they are initially reluctant to try this and will say something like, “Breathing doesn’t work for me!” I usually suggest we try and practice it together and after doing a five minute breathing and meditation exercise, my clients inevitably appear much more relaxed, less anxious and are able to access resources inside of them five minutes earlier they were not even aware of.
I think this is how most of us learn to do anything — we just have to be willing to try it, and then practice until we develop
