Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is not commonly discussed, and when it is, it’s more often than not misrepresented as a synonym for “neatness,” “quirk,” or “preference.” However, OCD is a serious, life-altering mental illness.
It’s an illness that can completely take over life, and make its inflicted feel like a prisoner in their own mind and body. And while OCD is misconstrued as the desire for cleanliness, in reality, it is a vastly varied illness that can manifest in many ways, making it difficult to create a succinct list of symptoms.
But here are a few of the symptoms I believe stretch across the many types of OCD, and that I have experienced throughout my battle with this debilitating mental illness. 1.
